Chimney Sweeping: If the cresote buildup is over 1/8 inch thick a chimney cleaning is needed according to the National Fire Protection Association. Brushes are used to remove the cresote and restore proper function of the chimney.

Chimney Caps and Rain Pans: Chimney caps and rainpans are installed for 3 reasons. 1) Prevent water damage to the chimney and house. 2)Keep animals out. 3) Good caps act as a spark arrestor and prevent sparks from hitting the roof.
